Overview

Gain a broad understanding of the tool making trade while building valuable hands-on experience.

Career-ready training

In this four-semester program, you’ll receive both classroom and lab/workshop instruction at our state-of-the-art tool making facility. After the third semester, you may have the opportunity for on-the-job training, where you’ll develop in-depth tool-making skills and can potentially secure up to 2,000 hours of experience towards your apprenticeship.

Graduate with a diploma and apprenticeship exemption

When you graduate from this program, you’ll receive an Ontario College Mechanical Technician diploma. You may also get credit for levels 1 and 2 of your apprenticeship in-school training requirements as part of this program. This would give you a great advantage as you work towards your apprenticeship.

21st-century tool making

During the classroom and lab/workshop components of the program, you’ll work with 21st-century tool-making technology and equipment while becoming skilled in:

  • Precision Machining
  • Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming
  • Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
  • Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)

Sheridan’s instructors are industry professionals, with many years of experience as both teachers and as practicing tool makers. Their knowledge and expertise will give you the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the classroom, labs/workshop and on the job.

One-year certificate option

You may choose to graduate after successfully completing the first two academic semesters. If you choose this option, you’ll receive the Mechanical Techniques – Tool and Die Maker Ontario College Certificate.
