Overview
Seneca’s Fire Protection Engineering Technology (FPT) advanced diploma program, is the leading North American program for fire prevention education. Under the guidance of professors and industry experts, you will work with advanced fire protection equipment. Expect hands-on experience in the design and installation of fire protection systems.
Major areas of study include the advanced design and installation of fire protection systems (sprinklers and alarms), leading-edge computer software systems, the governing codes and standards, as well as optional training in fire investigation, insurance and wildland fire suppression.
Once you complete the FPT program, you can move forward to the Firefighter, Pre–Service Education & Training – FFP program for a career in firefighting.

Professional Certification
The program is recognized by the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA). Graduates who meet academic certification requirements can receive three months of work experience (visit cfaa.ca for certification requirements and FAQ).
Optional Co-op
Students meeting all academic requirements may have the opportunity to complete an optional co-op work term(s) in a formal work environment. In most cases, the work term(s) is a full-time paid position completed between two academic semesters. In programs with limited co-op opportunities, additional academic requirements and a passing grade on a communication assessment may be required for eligibility. Eligibility for participation does not guarantee a work position will be secured. Additional fees are required for those participating in the optional co-op stream regardless of success in securing a work position.
