Overview
A nursing degree that is forward-thinking, student-centred and hands-on.
Intraprofessional learning to create a healthier nursing community
This degree reimagines what nursing education should be, helping you understand the valuable roles that both Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) play in our health-care system. You’ll first learn entry-to-practice competencies required of both RPNs and RNs, then build on that knowledge to master advanced competencies RNs need to care for unstable and complex patients.
Apply your skills in the classroom and in the field
Graduate with nearly 1,600 hours of real-world experience. This is the first nursing degree program in Ontario to include two consolidation preceptored placements, sharpening your skills after your fourth and eighth semesters. Our nursing labs also use high-fidelity mannequins and UbiSim virtual simulation software to ensure you enter the workforce ready to care for patients.
Earn your nursing licence in just two years
If you need to exit this program early, you’ll meet the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario’s (CNO’s) entry-to-practice competencies for RPNs after two years of studies — meaning you can graduate with a Practical Nursing (Leadership and Education focus) diploma and write your RPN licensing exam. If you re-enter Sheridan’s degree program within the next two years, no bridging courses will be required.
Develop leadership, communication and resilience skills
In each year of your studies, you’ll earn certificates that are valued by employers and could help you advance in your career more quickly:
- Year 1 – Gentle Persuasive Approach Certificate: Learn to provide person-centred and compassionate care to clients with Dementia.
- Year 2 – Crucial Conversations Course: Develop communication skills that enable you to navigate difficult conversations in high-stress situations.
- Year 3 – Crisis Prevention Training Certificate: Understand tactics and strategies that prevent and de-escalate violent behaviours.
- Year 4 – Mastering My Mental Fitness For Nurses: Strengthen your mental wellbeing and develop resilience needed to work in fast-paced and stressful environments.
Career opportunities
As a graduate of Sheridan’s Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing degree, you’ll be eligible to write the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) NCLEX licensing exam and work as a Registered Nurse in settings such as hospitals, long-term care, public health and the community.
