Overview
Grade 9 marks an exciting beginning to high school at ILAC International High School. It is a foundational year where students begin working toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) while adjusting to a new academic environment in Canada.
In Grade 9, students will explore a variety of core subjects that build essential knowledge and skills, including:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Geography of Canada
- Health & Physical Education
- French as a Second Language
- Arts (Visual Arts or Music)
- Introduction to Business or Computer Studies (optional)
Alongside academics, ILAC International High School focuses on helping students build strong study habits, time management skills, and confidence in using academic English. With small class sizes and personalized support from caring teachers, Grade 9 students receive the guidance they need to succeed academically and socially.
This year also provides opportunities to get involved in school life through extracurricular activities, clubs, and community events, helping students build friendships and become part of a vibrant international school community.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Upon arrival, all students will have their English language proficiency assessed. Based on the results, students may be required to take ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to support their language development. These courses may include: ESLAO, ESLBO, ESLCO, ESLDO, and ESLEO, each designed to progressively build academic English skills essential for success in high school and beyond.
