Overview
Grade 11 is a crucial year at ILAC International High School, as students begin to shape their academic focus and prepare for post-secondary pathways. In this year, students select courses that align with their interests and future goals—whether they plan to apply to university, college, or other post-secondary programs in Canada or abroad.
Students work closely with academic advisors to choose the right mix of university (U), college ©, or mixed (M) level courses that satisfy Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements and meet the prerequisites for their chosen programs.
Typical Grade 11 courses may include:
- English (University/College Preparation)
- Mathematics (Functions, Functions and Applications, or Foundations for College Math)
- Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics)
- Social Sciences or Business Studies
- Electives in areas such as Visual Arts, Computer Science, International Languages, or Health & Physical Education
This year also marks the beginning of students’ 40-hour community involvement requirement, which is essential for graduation. ILAC International High School supports students in finding meaningful volunteer opportunities that enhance both their skills and their university applications.
In addition to academics, students receive dedicated support in areas such as academic counseling, career planning, and university admissions preparation. Workshops and one-on-one sessions help students explore options, set goals, and begin preparing personal statements and applications.
Grade 11 is also a time of continued personal development. Students are encouraged to participate in clubs, leadership opportunities, and extracurriculars that enrich their high school experience and strengthen their profiles for university admissions.
With expert guidance and a supportive international community, ILAC International High School ensures that Grade 11 students are confident, informed, and on track to achieve their academic ambitions.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
Upon arrival, all students will have their English language proficiency assessed. Based on the results, students may be required to take ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to support their language development. These courses may include: ESLAO, ESLBO, ESLCO, ESLDO, and ESLEO, each designed to progressively build academic English skills essential for success in high school and beyond.
