Overview

Grade 12 is the final and most important year of high school at ILAC International High School. It is a time when students focus on completing their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) requirements while preparing for the next step in their academic journey—whether it’s university, college, or another post-secondary pathway.

Students take a combination of university (U), college ©, or mixed (M) level courses tailored to meet admission requirements for their chosen programs and institutions. With the guidance of experienced academic counselors, each student builds a course schedule that aligns with their post-secondary goals.

Typical Grade 12 courses may include:

  • English (ENG4U – a compulsory graduation requirement)
  • Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, or Mathematics of Data Management
  • Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • Social Sciences, Business Studies, or Computer Science
  • Electives based on the student’s specialization or interests

This is also the year when students finalize their 40 hours of community service, complete any remaining graduation requirements, and begin the university/college application process. ILAC International High School offers dedicated support for every step of the way, including:

  • One-on-one guidance with university and college applications (OUAC, OCAS, Common App, etc.)
  • Personal statement and essay writing workshops
  • University fairs and information sessions
  • Scholarship guidance and recommendation letters

Beyond academics, Grade 12 students are encouraged to take on leadership roles, participate in school events, and contribute to the school community as they prepare to transition into adulthood.

Graduating from ILAC International High School means more than earning a diploma—it means leaving with confidence, a global perspective, and the skills needed to thrive at top universities in Canada and around the world.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Upon arrival, all students will have their English language proficiency assessed. Based on the results, students may be required to take ESL (English as a Second Language) courses to support their language development. These courses may include: ESLAO, ESLBO, ESLCO, ESLDO, and ESLEO, each designed to progressively build academic English skills essential for success in high school and beyond.

Please note that a student’s ESL proficiency level may affect their graduation requirements and their ability to be admitted into a college or university program. To gain admission to most post-secondary institutions, students are required to complete at least four university (U) or mixed (M) level courses. Therefore, students who need to take ESL courses must focus on improving their English proficiency to meet these requirements in order to be eligible for college or university admission.
